From our own Kevin Dobie, who is head coach for the D&W Two Counties Colts
Dorset & Wilts U18 boys came together on Sunday 1 November 2026. Even after very limited training time together, they started strong with great tempo and managed to work two nice tries in the first fifteen minutes. Berkshire then started to put some pressure on, but the D&W defence held out... until the pressure began to toll and Berkshire started to get some dominance and managed a score.
D&W had a couple of nasty injuries with Cameron and Arthur having to come off with collarbone and shoulder injuries. We wish these boys all the best for a speedy recovery, although we were pleased that their departure meant that Marlborough's Theo Bailey came onto the pitch earlier than he had expected!
The second half saw rest of the Marlborough boys take the pitch - Alfie Stockton at 9, Lawrence West-Oram at 10, and Giles Allen at 12. Theo Wright, who started at tight-head prop, was going to have to go the full game - great effort!
The game continued to be a tough physical battle and both teams showed some great attacking rugby.
All the boys put in a massive shift and the final score reflected the energy, effort, and commitment made by all. Four tries apiece; 20-20; a very tight draw.
The County Colts now have a break. The next fixture is against Cornwall and will be played at Hartpury College on Sunday 22 November. For this game, a reduced squad of 23 players will be selected... no pressure!
All Marlborough Rugby supporters will be welcome at the next fixture. Please come along and make some noise for these tremendous young players. They are fine ambassadors for our Club and deserve real credit.
The Chairman and Committee congratulate them all on their selection and for playing such a great game. Our thanks go to Kevin as well - he really puts in the hard yards with the coaching!
