This was the era when Marlborough ran three complete sides and tried a fourth

The first time that this new kit was warn by the 3rd XV was against Wootton Bassett (now Royal). The Club had decided to update the shirt design to squares rather than hoops. This alternative strip avoided the team from clashing with other club teams who had similar colours to our own.

Those seasons where Marlborough were able to put out three or four teams were the beginnings of the development of other local teams such Pewsey, Aldbourne 'Dab-Chicks' and Bedwyn. Some of the players moved away from Marlborough and attracted other players from these areas to set up their own teams, of which only Pewsey remains today.
