During the early 80’s when Peter Rigby was captain, Marlborough were drawn in the Dorset and Wilts Cup to play Dorset  Institutes.
They were at the time in a league above Marlborough although in the bottom half.
The result was a fine performance by Marlborough RFC. A number of players in the opposition played for Bournemouth Rugby Club its was alleged.
Dorset Institute supporters were out in force and very vocal over any illegal play missed by the referee, caused by retaliation for taking liberties by the home side.
