In early days when leagues came the fixtures were organised by Geographical County Groups.
So initially It was :- Courage Leagues Berks, Dorset and Wilts .
This would entail long journeys for those teams on the edge of the area, which in amateur sport often meant Saturday workers could not get away from their work to travel long distances. The away team would be weakened.
In a return fixtures at Weymouth  MRFC could not raise a side for this fixture due to work commitments. It would take about 2 hours to cover the 75 miles to Weymouth if the traffic was favourable.
Weymouth came and played Marlborough, but I am sure that they were experiencing the same problems as MRFC, being a larger Town  had more  players available?
But generously they played the fixture probably anticipating the  outcome before they left their club!
Here is that match in the 1994/95 season.
Thank goodness a different formula was found for league organisation in the following years.
