On a bright Sunday morning, the Marlborough Rugby Under 15s faced a formidable Salisbury side — newly crowned Dorset & Wilts champions — and were caught cold in the opening stages, conceding three quick tries to powerful runners. It was a slow mental start, and the boys knew it.
But Marlborough grew into the game. The forwards began to find shape, Ollie controlled the tempo, and players like Hector, Zavi and Tom led the physical response. Bill’s outstanding defensive work kept the scoreline from running away even further.
The second half showed the team’s true character. Heads stayed high, tackles sharpened, and Marlborough matched Salisbury for long spells. James was a constant nuisance, and a brilliant interception from Dan — finished under the posts by Benji — brought well‑earned smiles.
The result wasn’t the story. The attitude was. Players who weren’t sure they wanted a full match were suddenly refusing to come off. The boys found pride, resilience, and a taste for the contest. A tough scoreline, but a performance full of spirit and progress.
Final score: Marlborough Rugby Under 15s 7-69 Salisbury RFC Under 15s
No shame in this result - it was a 'tough day at the office', but heads are held high. Onwards and upwards.
As always, the boys welcomed their opposition into the Clubhouse for the post-match tea and awards... and then everyone was treated to a spectacular display by the Red Devils, who parachuted onto the pitch where the boys had been playing just a few minutes earlier!
