Corsham RFC

43 - 0

(HT 22-0)

Marlborough RFC

The Marlborough Rugby Under 16s squad arrived at Corsham to play their final match in the league stage of the Dorset & Wiltshire season on a damp and dank day.

The game started poorly for the Marlborough boys when they conceded an early try. The slippery pitch limited free-flowing rugby with Corsham content to play a predominantly kick-based game, which tested the Marlborough defence.  That said, the boys defended manfully and mainly in their own half.  Corsham managed to score another couple of tries as a result of some avaoidable mistakes, which saw the scoreline read 21-0 at half-time.

Corsham's large squad allowed them to freshen up the team for the second half, which followed a similar pattern to the first - Marlborough predominantly defending and Corsham scoring more tries as result of their controlled kicking game.

But our Under 16s kept going, despite a threadbare squad size, and the boys never showed any sign of their heads dropping.  They deserve real credit for battling on stoutly until the end.

All-in-all, it was a tough and very physical game.  Our Under 16s can and should take great pride in their attitude and reassure themselves that they have the confidence to compete with physical sides in future games.

Well done - on to the next breakdown!
