On a fair, sunny Sunday at Bradford-on-Avon RFC's Ashley Lane ground, the Marlborough Stags arrived ready to right some wrongs in the first tie of the Dorset & Wiltshire RFU's Under 14s Plate Competition.
They started the game at a gallop and Alex Powell burst through from outside the 22 for a great score under the posts which Laurence Elliot converted.
The game was then played in the Stags half for some time but they held out under pressure and managed to get back to the opposition 22 and earned a penalty which Harry Graham duly slotted.
Half-time score: Bradford-on-Avon 0-10 Marlborough
The second half continued to be fiercely contested before Alex Powell managed to get in for another try to extend the lead (missed conv). The pack fought hard and survived 2 yellow cards before the game was sealed with a lovely up and under in the 22 from Laurence Elliot, gathered by Lucas Stevenson who off loaded to Harry Graham, stepping inside to beat the defence and score. The conversion from Laurence Elliot made it 0-22 and the boys held on heroically to keep the score to zero, a full team effort.
Final score: Bradford-on-Avon 0-22 Marlborough
Coaches' reflections and awards: Riley Dunsford received the player of the match award for his full match contribution at tighthead and Harry Graham got the 'moment of the match' prize for his try-saving tackle. We await the draw for our next tie as we move into the final stages of the competition.
