Weymouth & Portland RFC

15 - 33

(HT 5-19)

Marlborough RFC
The Marlborough Rugby Under 16s travelled to Weymouth on Sunday to play a long-awaited league match against Weymouth & Bridport, which had been rescheduled a couple of times previously.
Travelling with seventeen players meant that Marlborough had a couple of subs for the match - for the first time this season!
The team was also playing the match in new numbered shirts - another first. Big thanks to the Club and to our sponsors for providing the new strip.
After a early start and travelling for two hours, the team arrived to a wet and windy Weymouth Rugby Club.
The match went ahead at last, with Marlborough making a powerful and fast start to score a try in the first five minutes following the kick-off. Marlborough had the upper hand, and were setting up and communicating well. We scored twice more in the first half. However, the conditions and poor pass choices allowed Weymouth to score and stay in the game.
Marlborough should have secured the match in the second half, but with the weather worsening and some fatigue and ill disipline creeping in, the Marlborough boys started giving away far too many silly penalties, allowing Weymouth to stay in the match - scoring again and piling the pressure onto Marlborough.
But the boys held out and took the away win - heading home wet and tired, but victorious! And with the chance of getting to the semi-finals on the horizon...
Below: the Marlborough Rugby Under 16s, resplendent in the new kit!
