Well, that was a Saturday afternoon most of us wished could have ended sooner...! Nobody likes a whitewash, especially those on the wrong end of it.
Our senior squad management reports:
"An extremely difficult and unpleasant afternoon for Marlborough.
"It starting badly with RWB scoring in the first minute with a converted try. Quickly followed by a penalty. So, we were 0-10 down in less than ten minutes! Unfortunately, this did not seem to wake up the men of Marlborough, and although RWB were playing well they were not playing that well. Marlborough were architects of their own downfall, notching up two yellow cards in the first half, albeit one of them extremely harsh. At half-time, we were losing 0-36.
"The second half got off to the worst possible start with another yellow card and more of the same poor rugby and decision-making from Marlborough. Another yellow card followed - we played half this game with less than the full fifteen on the pitch... not clever.
Final score: Marlborough Rgugy 0-62 Royal Wootton Bassett RFC
"This was the worst Marlborough performance for some time. Four yellow cards; five tries scored by Bassett thanks to missed tackles.
" But there are a couple of brighter points: Ratu Saqanavere winning his first 1st XV cap and being named the Marlborough Rugby Man of the Match; and James Marshall returning and acting as Captain on the day - he played a solid game."
Please note: there are some excellent photos of this match and our match-day sponsor (Awdry Law) via the 'gallery' tab here. With thanks to Neil Goodwin (of Marlborough News) and James Booth.
