Marlborough RFC

5 - 73

(HT 5-45)

Chippenham RFC

The Nomads that lined up to face Chippenham on Saturday were a motley crew, to say the least. Ranging in age from 18 to 64 (yes!), they answered the call and stepped up in tremendous fashion.

It was always going to be tough and a result would have been against the odds, but to a man they did not give up and, whilst the scoreline reflects the imbalance between the two teams, there were some moments of top quality rugby played by a team that had only come together on the day.

As one of the senior and more seasoned players remarked the following morning:

"I just wanted to [...] to thank everyone who turned up and put the Marlborough jersey on for the 2nd XV yesterday.

"Regardless of the scoreline [...] everyone got on that pitch and put their bodies on the line. I was proud to take to the field with all of you and wear that Marlborough jersey.

"Sometimes it’s not all about winning - it’s about having fun and doing what’s right for the Club.

"I hope everyone had a good evening - big shout out to the old boys, especially Steve playing at 64 - I guarantee that I won’t be any where near lacing my boots up to play when I’m that age!

"Anyway that’s all lads, well done and I hope you have a good rest of the weekend."

Top drawer community rugby.
