Marlborough RFC

19 - 37

(HT 7-17)

Trowbridge RFC

The Club's Vice-Chair watched this home fixture and reports as follows:

"...from seeing Trowbridge run out it was clear, given their size, bulk, and determination we could be in for a difficult afternoon. That said, we totally dominated the match for the first fifteen minutes, with Trowbridge getting hardly any ball; sadly, however, we were not able to turn possession into points.
"As the match progressed our fairly new team - which counted eight of last year's Colts in the ranks and which had been dealing with a long list of injuries and non-availability that also hampered the 1st XV - tried so hard and made some progress, but the kick through and weak defence did on a few occasions cost us dear. Watching Simon Pilkington (playing at Number 8) charge around was fantastic; as was a solo try from Ed Mills running nearly the whole length of the field, playing as hooker!"
Peter Rigby, also standing on the touch-line adds:
"I watched the Nomads. Trowbridge were big and strong. Line-outs were tough. However, our boys tried really hard and were on top - particularly early on. They never gave up despite having some injuries. Loose play gave tries to interceptions and kicks through, but the spectators were proud of them."
Final score: Marlborough 19-27 Trowbridge

Tries from:

  • 38' Freddie Allen, converted by Bradley Whatley, who was also skipper for the day.
  • 45' Simon Pilkington, converted by Bradley Whatley
  • 78' Ed Mills, not converted
