What a fantastic season it has been for Marlborough Rugby’s 1st XV, where the boys have shown an impressive display of skill and determination and have managed to retain their position at Level 5 through finishing 9th in the Regional 1 South Central League. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of not only the players but also the coaches and support staff. The journey has been a challenging learning curve for everyone involved, as they have navigated the complexities of competing at this level.

One significant aspect of this season has been dealing with more experienced referees who missed very little to maintain discipline on the field. This has required the team to be more mindful of their conduct and strategy during matches. The heightened scrutiny has undoubtedly encouraged the players to hone their skills and try to improve their discipline within the game, but sometimes old habits die hard.

Additionally, the introduction of new rules this year has played a pivotal role in making the game safer for all participants as well as remaining competitive. These changes have been supported by Marlborough Rugby, as player safety is always a top priority. As Marlborough reflects on this remarkable season, they can take pride in their accomplishments and look forward to building on this foundation in the seasons to come.

Another new experience for the boys was the amount of travel that was involved. Most of the away games required a coach to get the team, coaches, and backroom staff there. Any empty seats were offered to supporters who wanted to travel down on the team bus. This was very much appreciated by those spectators who did this, helping to create the atmosphere for the rest of the day regardless of the outcome. Pewsey Vale Coaches, with Russ as the boy’s regular driver covered most of the journeys.

The journey of Marlborough Rugby has been an exciting one over the last few years. To think that they would come face-to-face against teams like London Welsh, Camberley, and Havant on the Common is nothing short of a dream come true for the dedicated supporters. For years, the Marlborough faithful have rallied behind the club. The Common has now become a stage for thrilling matches that attract followers from near and far. The atmosphere along the sidelines can be electric, full of enthusiasm. The camaraderie and community spirit that these matches on the Common foster are invaluable, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come. As Marlborough Rugby continues to grow and achieve new heights, the dreams of the supporters keep evolving, ever hopeful for more extraordinary milestones in the club's journey.

The 2nd XV, affectionately known as ‘the Nomads', recently celebrated a significant achievement by clinching the Dorset and Wilts County Cup at level 2. This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and strategic prowess of both the players and the coaching staff. Winning the Cup not only highlights their talent but also underscores the cohesive teamwork and perseverance that have driven their success throughout the season.

In addition to their Cup victory, the Nomads also showcased their competitive spirit in the league, finishing in a commendable second position. Although they narrowly missed out on promotion, their performance throughout the season was impressive. Coming so close to the top spot sets a strong foundation for future campaigns. The experience gained and the lessons learned from this season will undoubtedly fuel their ambition and drive in the coming seasons.

The Colts were valiant competitors, but ultimately finished as runners-up in the County Colts Cup after losing to Bradford-upon-Avon. The Under 15s team celebrated a significant achievement by getting through to the Cup semi-final, where they sadly lost to Chippenham U15s. They may not have won, but to have these two teams in the running was a very proud moment for the club.

This year also saw the introduction of Walking Rugby at the club, which is open to all regardless of age or gender. This inclusive initiative reflects the club's commitment to promoting rugby and its variations as a sport for all.

Girls’ rugby is becoming more established within the club and represents a significant step forward for the club, as well as the introduction of ‘Women’s Rugby Fit’. This provides an excellent opportunity for women and girls to engage, learn new skills, make new friends, and have a laugh.

The club has much to be proud of and much to look forward to for next season. The possibilities are endless.
