Last Saturday (1st May), Marlborough RFU could boast that three of Bath Academy’s Player Development Group who were up against Bristol Academy U18s at Ding Crusaders, started their rugby career on the Common with Marlborough's U6s and then went through the age groups.

After the disruption of COVID-19 over this last year, our former boys, Tom Ahl (Openside Flanker on right of photo), Tom Bieneman (Fly Half, on left of photo) and Jasper Spandler (Hooker and England U18) finally managed to stretch their legs on a rugby pitch and play rugby. The game was very physical, but the boys did their jobs, worked hard, and helped their team win by 33 points to 26 with Tom (Bieneman) kicks being reliably on point. All those hours practicing his kicking on the Common is paying dividends. The team has a further three fixtures to complete before the end of this most strange of seasons – 8th May Cheltenham Tigers, 22nd May - Exeter, and 29th May - London Irish.

When Tom (Ahl) is not training with the Academy, he has also been seen taking part in training with the seniors on a Saturday. Then on a Sunday morning, he can be seen with Colts player Nathan Cross running Rugby Tot sessions with children ranging from two to seven years of age with many progressing into Marlborough’s mini section. Tom and Nathan can be seen providing fun and entertaining sessions for the youngsters as well as for their parents.

It is great to see Marlborough players doing well for themselves and very well done to all three of them.
