On November 20, Marlborough Rugby will celebrate the life of one of its own who is sadly no longer with us. Marco Merlina was part of the club for ten years, which culminated in his being instrumental in developing what we know as the colts today, and he did so with Tim Richards. He brought players back to the club and built a strong team ethos. As captain, he led his teammates to win the league and reach the D&W final, which they unfortunately lost.

At 2.00 pm on Sunday, November 20, Marlborough Colts will host Chippenham Colts on the Common in a league game. Marco’s parents will be presented with a number 10 shirt with Marco’s name on it. Marlborough Colts will not be wearing a number 10 shirt for this game. At the end of the game, Marlborough’s ‘Man of the Match" will be presented with the "Marco Merlina Cup" which will then be presented annually going forward to the Colts' player of the season.

Please try and make every effort to attend this celebration of Marco’s life; he loved the club, loved his brothers, and loved his rugby. Whether you knew him or not, it makes no difference; he was part of the Marlborough family.

Marco’s family would also like to raise funds for the Wooden Spoon charity, which can be done directly online via woodenspoon.org.uk, or you can bring your loose change up to the game as there will also be collection buckets going around.
